Weekly Roundup - Week 7

07/19/2016 6:19 PM -

What a week it’s been in the WMBL. There are two weeks left in the 2016 regular season, and plenty of scenarios could still play out. The two biggest stories right now are the Yorkton Cardinals win streak and the Medicine Hat Mavericks slide. Yorkton is currently on a 6 game win streak and they have won 9 out of their last 10 to move to within a half game back of 2nd place Regina and home field advantage in the first round of the playoffs. The Cards still sit 5 games back of division leading Swift Current at a WMBL leading 28-11. In the West Medicine Hat has hit a rough patch dropping four straight contests. The Mavs still boast an impressive 27-11 record and remain 2 games ahead of the Okotoks Dawgs 24-12. The eight teams currently holding playoff spots look like they will remain the same barring a magical home stretch from either Moose Jaw or Brooks who are on the outside looking in, in 5th place in their divisions. Moose Jaw is 3.5 games back of Weyburn and Brooks 6 back of Edmonton before Tuesday night’s games. Never say never though, the Bombers and the Miller Express have 4 and 3 game win streaks at the moment.

Here is a look at the 2016 WMBL Playoff picture.

So far July has brought too many thunderstorms and reeked havoc on WMBL fields. It seems like every night there have been weather advisories for WMBL cities across Alberta and Saskatchewan. As we reach the second half of July let’s hope that the weather cooperates, and we can make up for some lost attendance due to rain in the past two weeks. As it sits we have eclipsed the 170,000 mark as a league. Okotoks passed 50,000 and Brooks still has a chance to hit 10,000 attendees by seasons end. Make sure to support your local team down the home stretch. This league runs on your support and we cannot thank you enough. Good luck to all the teams as we get to the best part of the year!
