Player of the Week (Week #7)07/19/2016 4:13 PM - I think it is safe to say we have officially hit the home stretch of the 2016 WMBL regular season. We are just less than two weeks away from wrapping up another season, and heading into the 2016 Playoffs. Swift Current and Medicine Hat still sit atop their divisions, but there are plenty of exciting story lines that could play out down the stretch run. More on that in this week's, Weekly Roundup. Last week we looked at some of the triple crown category leaders in the WMBL. Mitch McGeein from the Lethbridge Bulls continues to lead the league in batting average at .425, but there are a few players hot on his heals. Alec Humphreys from Swift Current (.408) and Cory Scammell out of Edmonton (.403) both hold averages north of the magical .400 mark. Alex Alders from Medicine Hat still holds firm leads in both homeruns and RBI's with 11 and 52 respectively. It will take a hot home stretch for anyone to catch the Maverick outfielder in either category. The pitching triple crown categories are quite interesting as well. Kody Rock still leads the league in ERA at 1.77. Rock picked up his 5th win of the year in Okotoks on July 16th throwing 5 innings of 3 run ball. Rock slipped to 2nd in strikeouts behind Medicine Hat's Jared Libke. Libke has 6 wins and 55 strikeouts on the year. Libke's 6 wins are tied with another WMBL standout Bobby St. Pierre for tops in the league. Read about the gem St. Pierre threw this week below. As previously stated there will be one winner of player of the week. That player will be recognized on the main page of the website. If the player of the week is a hitter, a pitcher of the week is awarded, and if the player of the week is a pitcher, a hitter of the week will be awarded. The cutoff for games will be on Sunday. A new week will start every Monday.
