It is going to be a wild weekend in the WMBL. The 2015 playoff race is going to come down to the wire. It will take every day in the schedule plus one more to decide this years playoff contenders. Saturday is supposed to be an off day for all teams before the playoffs start, but there are two scheduled games that will decide who goes to the postseason, and who will not.
In the Alberta division everything is set. Lethbridge and Okotoks are the one and two seeds respectively. Okotoks will host Medicine Hat starting Sunday at 7:05pm at Seaman Stadium. Lethbridge will face one of three teams fighting for the final playoff spot in the Saskatchewan division. Melville, Moose Jaw and Swift Current could all still grab the last spot.
As of Friday afternoon, Melville was holding on to the last spot with a record of 18-27. The Millionaires play a double header against division leading Weyburn today that will be crucial for Melville if they want to advance to the playoffs. Moose Jaw sits half a game back at 18-28 and will host the Swift Current Indians tonight at Ross Wells Park. Swift Current is hanging on to hope at 17-29, and face a must win tonight in Moose Jaw if they have any hopes of making the playoffs.
Tomorrow Moose Jaw will travel to Melville and Swift Current will travel to Regina to make up the final two games of the year. Both games are at 7:05pm. If teams end up tied at the conclusion of the regular season Swift Current holds a tiebreaker over Melville and Moose Jaw. Moose Jaw holds a tiebreaker over Melville.
Due to tomorrow nights games the Lethbridge Bulls may not know who they will face in the first round of the playoffs until 10:00pm tomorrow night. It will be a quick turnaround for whoever qualifies, as they will open up the playoffs in Lethbridge at Spitz Stadium at 6:05 pm Sunday evening.
