Playoff Game Recaps - August 2

 

Eastern Division 

Game 3 

Swift Current 9 at Regina 10

Regina jumped out to a 7-0 lead and then needed a run in the bottom of the 10thto beat Swift Current 10-9. In championship fashion, Swift Current battled back and took a 9-7 lead into the bottom of the ninth inning. Regina needed a two-run home run from Brooks Stotler to send the game in to extra innings.  

Red Sox catcher Matt DeNeau picked up a RBI in the 10thinning that scored Adam De La Cruz to end the game. Earlier in the contest, Deneau helped the Red Sox gain an early lead with a grand slam in the bottom of third. 

Offensively for Edmonton Myles Miller had three RBI and a hit 

Adam De La Cruz came on to face one batter in the top of the 10th. He earned the win after striking out Ruben Rodriquez. Swift Current reliever Tommy Steier suffered the extra inning loss. 

 

Game Notes: (Regina now leads the series 2-1)

Blake Adams reached base twice by a hit by pitch

Keil Krumwiede had a home run and 3 RBI

 

Regina:

Brooks Stotler had 4 hits, including a double a home run and scored 4 runs

 

 

Eastern Division

Game 3

Weyburn 4 at Moose Jaw 9

Moose Jaw scored five runs in the first inning on their way to 9-4 win over Weyburn in game three of their semi-final series. 

Ty Schindel and John Prudhom smacked home runs for Moose Jaw. The Miller Express had 13 hits on the night. Drake Pilat, a junior at the University of Jamestown, contributed three hits including two doubles and two RBI for the Beavers.  

Ryder Yakel started for Moose Jaw and was solid over seven innings as he earned the Miller Express victory.  The native of Larkin, Kansas allowed two runs on five hits and a walk. Yakel also struck out four of the 27 batters he faced.

Landon Mostellar started for Weyburn and lasted just 1.1 innings in the loss. 

 

Game Notes: (Weyburn now leads the series 2-1)

Weyburn:

Left 8 runners on base

Corey Wheaton reached base 3 times with two hits and a walk

 

Moose Jaw:

484 fans at game

Brooks Benson registered 3 hits

 

 

Western Division

Game 3

Okotoks 11 at Edmonton 3

The Okotoks Dawgs defeated the Edmonton Prospects 11-3 in front of 1,114 at ReMax Field. 

Collin Ridout led the Dawgs offensive charge as the McHenry, Illinois product was four for six with two triples and four runs scored on the night. 

Edmonton shortstop Zane Takhar reached base twice in the game on a hit and a walk. 

Brock Townsend started for Okotoks and pitched 6.2 innings for the win. The right hander from Eugene, OR gave up just one run on three hits and a walk before leaving the game.

Edmonton starter Josh Stieglitz took the loss.

Okotoks:

Hit four triples

William Hollis had 2 hits, 2 walks and a triple

 

Edmonton:

Jake MacDonald had a triple, RBI and a run scored

Josh Stieglitz threw 84 pitches - 52 for strikes

 

Western Division

Game 3

Medicine Hat 9 at Lethbridge 4

Medicine Hat used 16 hits and three home runs to get past the Lethbridge Bulls 9-4 in front of 703 fans at Spitz Stadium. 

 

Carson Johnson, Jaxon Hooge and Sal Rodriguez each had three hits in the Mavericks win. Kaleb Warden was the offensive star for Lethbridge as he contributed three hits and a run.

Jumpei Akanuma was Medicine Hat’s starter and he pitched six innings for the win. Jesse Hilyard was tagged with the loss after his six inning start.

 

Game Notes: (Medicine Hat now leads the series 2-1)

Medicine Hat:

Jaxon Hooge had a double, a home run and 3 RBI

Tyler Shumpert pitched a scoreless 9thinning 

 

Lethbridge:

Left 9 runners on base

 

Dylan Borman and Blake MacDonald had doubles
