WMBL Game Recaps for Saturday, July 28

 

Moose Jaw 4 at Weyburn 5
Corey Wheaton continued his outstanding season for the Weyburn Beavers. The speedy outfielder from Arizona had three hits, three RBI and stole his league leading 30th base in Weyburn’s 5-4 win over Moose Jaw.

205 fans were on hand at Tom Laing Park to witness the Eastern Division leading Beavers 37th win of the season.

Conner DiNaro made his seventh start and earned his third win of 2018. The junior from  Mayville State University pitched eight innings allowing four runs while striking out seven. Shandon Herrera came out of the bullpen for the ninth inning and got the save.

Moose Jaw Mason Garispe starter fell victim to the Beavers bats and took the loss after four innings.

Ty Schindel homered and had 2 RBI
Mitchell Robinson also homered for the Miller Express

Highlights - Weyburn
Corey Harrell chipped in with two hits and a walk
DiNaro threw 109 pitches - 75 for strikes.


Fort McMurray 1 at Edmonton 3
The Edmonton Prospects defeated Fort McMurray 3-1 in front of 3,251 fans at ReMax Field.  Edmonton scored in the first two innings and never looked back as they racked up their 22nd win of the year.

Prospect leadoff hitter Tony Olson figured in all three of his team’s runs. The Sherwood Park, AB product had a single, was hit by a pitch, scored a run and drove in two runs.
Jonathan Lindau had a double and a RBI for the Giants.

Taran Oulton picked up the victory while Chase Morris had the save for Edmonton. Matt Vonderschmidt took the Fort McMurray loss.

Nick Spillman hit his 9th double of the year
Daylen Calicdan had 2 hits and a run

 

Medicine Hat 12 at Lethbridge 3    
The Mavericks jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first two innings and coasted to a 12-3 win over the Lethbridge Bulls. The win was the 37th of the season for Medicine Hat.

Colton Wright was the Mavericks offensive star as he scored three runs, had two hits including a home run, a walk and four RBI. Shortstop Carson Johnson added three hits and scored two runs. Blake MacDonald led the Bulls offensive with two hits and one RBI.

Junior Pimentel picked up his third win after throwing 5.1 innings. Austin Tambellini got roughed up early and was responsible for the Lethbridge loss.

Colton Wright has 46 RBI
Zack Gray had 2 hits, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored

Seth Spangler pitched two scoreless innings


Yorkton 10 at Swift Current 6
The Yorkton Cardinals surprised the second place Swift Current 57s 10-6 at Mitchell Field.

Cardinal left fielder Ryne Niemi had a double, a home run and three RBI in the win. Riley Jepson added three hits, a walk and two RBI for Yorkton. Outfielder Blake Adams helped the Swift Current offence with three hits, a RBI and a run scored.

Wryland McKnight earned his second win of the year
Logan MacDougall - 3 hits, 2 runs and 2 RBI

 

Okotoks 14 at Brooks 3
JT Patterson had five hits as Okotoks thumped the Brooks Bombers 14-3 at Elks Stadium.
Offensively Dawgs shortstop Collin Ridout scored three runs and contributed three hits including a home run and a walk. 

Lane Fleming and Liam Shibata each had two hits for Brooks.
Alex Jones picked up his second win of the season while Jack Caswell was saddled with the Brooks loss.

Had 4 doubles

Damian Rodriguez now has 9 home runs

 

Regina 13 at Melville 3
Regina hammered 14 hits and took advantage of five Melville errors in a 13-3 win over the Money Men. 

The Red Sox used five pitchers including third baseman Phil Langlois, who pitched the ninth inning, and earned the win.  Nate Doleman was tagged with the Melville loss. 

In addition to getting the win Langlois had a good night with the bat as he contributed two hits, two walks and a RBI. Catcher Matt Deneau also added three RBI for the Red Sox. Tyler Ulrich had two of the Millionaires five hits.

Regina pitchers struck out 14 Melville batters
Wesley Moss had two triples and stole his 29th base

 

Highlights - Melville
Marshall McPherson pitched a scoreless 8th inning.
Ryan Tackett is hitting .324 this year.
