There are various ways to celebrate Canada’s 151st birthday. Many communities will have a parade, a picnic or an all-day celebration. In the WMBL we celebrate Canada’s proud tradition and heritage by playing baseball.
As Canada's premier summer college league, we are proud to continue to grow baseball within our communities with special promotions and events. This year on Canada Day, four of the Alberta teams will host their Saskatchewan rivals.
Over the year’s prairie baseball fans of all ages flock to the ballpark on our National holiday to watch the stars of the WMBL. The league has had some of it best crowds on Canada Day. Last season Edmonton drew close to 7,300 fans in their 6-5 win over Moose Jaw while Okotoks had 5,473 in the stands for their game against Swift Current.
“Canada Day in the WMBL provides us with the opportunity to gather in our communities and proudly celebrate baseball and being Canadian,” said Kevin Kvame, President of the WMBL. “It’s always extra special to be part of the WMBL Canada Day game experience.”
With the ceremonial events and Canada Day focused activities you can always expect a dynamic day at the ballpark. WMBL fans can once again enjoy the long-standing tradition and beauty of fireworks, live music, a hotdog or two and baseball. Is there any better way to celebrate our national pride with family and friends on Canada Day?
