WMBL Championship Final – Game 2


Game 2: Edmonton 6 at Swift Current 4

(Series is now tied 1-1)

The Edmonton Prospects tied the WMBL Championship final 1-1 with a 6-4 victory over the defending champions at Mitchell Field. Edmonton had 12 hits and committed three errors while Swift Current managed five hits and was also charged with three errors.  
The series now shifts to Re/Max Field in Edmonton for game 3 Tuesday night and game 4 Wednesday night. Game 5, if needed, will be played back in Swift Current. 
Andrew Grieder, the Spruce Grove, AB product, got the start for the Edmonton Prospects. His fifth playoff outing lasted 6.2 innings as he gave up four runs on four hits and four walks. Grieder picked up the win as he also struck out four batters.  Marion McLean came in to finish the seventh inning for Edmonton. Andrew Mirasty came out for the eighth inning with a two run lead and picked up the save as he registered the final six outs for the Prospects.  
Swift Current starter Dustin Wells faced 28 Prospect batters over 5.2 innings to take the loss. 
The senior from George Fox University allowed four runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out five. Sean Chandler got the call from the 57’s bullpen and was victimized for two unearned runs on two hits and a walk. Next up for Swift Current was Jagger Harjo who pitched the final four outs.
Victoria BC, native Zane Takhar had a great night at the plate for Edmonton as he raised his playoff average to .400 with four hits and three RBI.  Prospects right fielder Jake Lanferman had two hits, a run and a RBI.
Swift Current’s speedy third baseman Riley Campbell from Wadsworth, OH had two hits, two runs and two RBI as well as a walk in the 57’s losing effort.
