WMBL Round Up for August 4 

 
Western Division
Game 4: Okotoks 8 at Edmonton 9
(Series tied 2-2)
 
Game four was quite the battle in Edmonton as the Prospects evened the series with a 9-8 win over the Okotoks Dawgs. 
 
The Prospects looked in total control of this one early as they scored six runs in the first two innings. The Dawgs showed why they were the top team in the WMBL as they tied the game with three runs in both the third and fifth innings. Edmonton rebounded with three more to grab a late inning 9-6 lead. The Dawgs added two in the ninth to make it close. 
 
Okotoks started Jack Rupe, and the pitching product from UC at San Diego took the loss. He lasted six innings allowing seven runs on 13 hits. 
 
The Prospects sent Scott Gillespie to the hill. He was pulled after surrendering six runs and nine hits over four innings. Marlon McLean threw four innings of relief for the win and Andrew Mirasty earned the save, his second in the 2017 playoffs.     
 
Erik Sabrowski stole the Prospects show with two hits and two RBI in the win. Dean Olson added three hits for Edmonton.
 
Ryan Humenuik had four hits for Okotoks in the defeat. 
 
Game 5 goes Saturday night in Okotoks. 
 
 
Game 4: Lethbridge 3 at Medicine Hat 2
(Series tied 2-2)
 
The Lethbridge Bulls erased a two-run deficit with a three run eighth inning to grab a clutch 3-2 victory. With the win the Bulls forced a fifth and deciding game Saturday in Lethbridge. 
 
Ben Erwin, the Spruce Grove, AB native took the mound for the Bulls and threw a solid six innings. Erwin gave up just one run on five hits while striking out five batters. Reliever David Jones earned the win while closer Chris Stodolka notched the save.
 
Mavericks starter Tanner Helms was on the hook for the loss giving up three runs on five hits over 7.2 innings. Conner Deeds came out of the bullpen and kept the Bulls scoreless over the final 1.1 innings. 
 
Lethbridge got dramatic home runs from Nolan Handley and Brett Semeniuk to grab the late inning lead. 
 
Chico State sophomore Luis Canjura has a pair of hits and a RBI for the Mavericks   
 
 
 
 
Eastern Division
Game 4: Weyburn 11 at Regina 5
(Weyburn wins series 3-1)
 
The Weyburn Beavers ended the Regina Red Sox season with a 11-5 win at Currie Field. Weyburn won the first-round series 3-1  
 
The Beavers bats were hot early as they hit their way to an 6-1 lead after three innings. Carlos Flores had an MVP night as he cranked a homer and double and added two RBI. Luis Jimenez had three hits and scored three runs for the Prospects. 
 
Regina did mount a late comeback with three runs in the eighth inning. One of the few Red Sox highlights was when Derek Slade went yard in the third inning to put the Regina on the score board.  
 
Weyburn starter Conner DiNaro shut down the Red Sox offence. Regina managed just 4 hits and 3 runs over 7 innings against the junior from Mayville State University.
 
Dalton England, the Gilbert, AZ product was lifted by Manager Mitch MacDonald after three innings.  England was hit for six runs on six hits before leaving the game. It was bullpen by committee as the Sox used five relievers to finish the game. 
 
560 fans were at Currie Field to watch 5th year veteran Jordan Schulz play his last game as a Red Sox.  
 
 
Game 4: Swift Current 6 at Moose Jaw Miller 1
(Swift Current wins series 3-1)
 
The Swift Current 57’s advanced to the Eastern Division Final for the second consecutive year with a 6-1 win over Moose Jaw. The defending WMBL champions won the series 3-1. 
 
Bodie Cooper contributed three hits and a RBI while teammate Brett Esau also had 3 hits. 
 
Scott Platt has a pair of hits for Moose Jaw. 
 
Mitch Guiberson, the freshman from the Community College of Spokane, threw six shutout innings for the series clinching victory. Jagger Harjo and Keil Krumwiede came on in relief for the 57’s. 
 
Hunter Kloke from Henderson, Kentucky, lasted six innings before giving way to the Miller Express bullpen.
