Weyburn 7 at Medicine Hat 8

In a battle of the top two teams in the WMBL, Medicine Hat scored three runs in the final two innings to defeat Weyburn 8-7.  With the bases loaded and no one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, Zack Gray singled to score David Salgueiro and Carson Johnson for the Mavericks win.

Gray, the senior from Henderson State University, had a great game. In addition to the clutch hit in the ninth inning, Gray finished the night with a homer and five RBI. Keaton Greenwalt supplied the Beavers with a walk, two hits and two runs.

Reliever Sean Cruz made his 10th relief appearance of the year for the Mavericks. Cruz pitched two scoreless innings and picked up his first win of 2018. Eric Evans took the loss for Weyburn

In addition to becoming the top-rated team in the league with a 21-3 record, Medicine Hat also extended their winning streak to 11 games.

Moose Jaw 0 at Swift Current 3
The Swift Current 57s used a three run fourth inning to blank the Moose Jaw Miller Express 3-0. 342 fans at Mitchell watched as Swift Current starter Jack Ferguson and reliever Tommy Steier combined for a five-hit shutout. Jesse Marks took the loss for Moose Jaw.

Outfielder Myles Miller led the 57’s attack with three hits, a run scored and a RBI.  Alex Hendra-Brown from Victoria, BC had two hits for Moose Jaw.

With the win, Swift Current is now 14-12 while the loss dropped Moose Jaw to 13-12.

Melville 1 at Fort McMurray 6
With a 6-1 victory, tonight the Fort McMurray Giants swept the two-game series against the visiting Melville Millionaires. The Giants also outhit the Millionaires 14-3 in the game.

Tyler Moskalyk had an outstanding start. The Thunder Bay, ON native earned his first win this season throwing eight solid innings allowing just one run on three hits and two walks. Matt Vonderschmidt closed out the game with a scoreless ninth inning.

Melville starter Zach Diaz, who went five innings, suffered the loss.  

Nik Pagan was the visitors offensive star. Pagan had a hit, a walk, two stolen bases and drove in Melville’s only run. Giants outfielder John Loschiavo reached base five times with three hits and two walks. He also had a run and a RBI.
