On a rare Saturday night game, the Regina Red Sox looked to continue their recent successes as they welcomed the Saskatoon Yellow Jackets to Currie Field.
Red Sox center fielder Eric Baker picked up where he left of from the previous night, opening the scoring in the bottom of the first. The Red Sox followed up with six runs in the bottom of the third by Baker, Hector Rivera, Cody Maas, Bronson Gillam, Tyler Wheeler, and Pier-Olivier Dostaler. After three complete, the Red Sox held a commanding 7-0 lead.
The Yellow Jackets eventually got on the board, though. In the top of the fourth inning Matt Cook’s RBI single to center field scored Justin Cook, but resilient as always, the Red Sox responded in the bottom half with Gillam’s second run of the game.
Just when it seemed like the baseball game was out of reach for the Yellow Jackets, Jake Moore cranked a two run shot over the right field wall in the top of the eighth.
White City-born Brandon Radmacher relieved Red Sox starting pitcher Allan Sanchez after the home run. Radmacher allowed no hits, no runs, and struck out one in the Red Sox 8-3 victory over the Yellow Jackets.
Sanchez cruised on the mound for the home team. He pitched seven and two-thirds of an inning, allowed six hits, and struck out seven.
Baker remained hot at the plate going 3-for-5 with two runs.
With the win, the Red Sox have won four in a row down the stretch.
The Red Sox next home game will be Tuesday, July 23, 2013 against the Yorkton Cardinals at 7:05 p.m.
