The Okotoks Dawgs (25-11) took on the red hot Lethbridge Bulls (21-18), winners of eight straight, and controlled the game basically from the first pitch. The Bulls came out in the second with two runs and the Dawgs answered back with four of their own, and continued to roll from there. The Dawgs ended up winning by a final score of 7-2.
It was Canadian Breast Cancer Day at Seaman Stadium and as always, it was an extremely special afternoon for everyone involved. The Dawgs sported pink jerseys for the game and in between innings, they were auctioned off live on field. The Dawgs beat their funds record with over $30 000 raised this afternoon! Jordan Procyshen (Northeastern Junior College) had the highest bid on his jersey, as it sold for $5000. This beat the old record for a Dawgs jersey.
The Dawgs didn’t disappoint in front of a great crowd as the offense and pithing were dominate all game. Hayden Cleveland (Franklin College) got his league-tying sixth win of the season, pitching 6 2/3 innings of two-run baseball. Dominic Porretta (Otterbein University) finished the game off, throwing 2 1/3 innings and only gave up one hit.
Most of the runs came early for the Dawgs, as they scored four runs in the second and then one in the third. James Stewart (UBC) had a great day with his jersey going for $2000 as well as going 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored. Zac Asman (Northern Kentucky University) went 2-for-5 with four RBIs.
The Dawgs are off tomorrow before heading to Lethbridge to take on the Bulls on Tuesday. They will finish their three-game series at home on Wednesday at 7:05pm. The Dawgs are headed to the playoffs and are looking to get there on a high note.
