Prospects and Red Sox meet for the first of a two game series

Monday evening’s game between the Regina Red Sox and the Edmonton Prospects was the first of back-to-back games between the two teams at Currie Field. Prior to the game, the Red Sox were 13-15 on the season, while the Prospects had a 6-22 record.

Chase Benfield struck early for the Red Sox. He scored one run in the bottom of the first. Three innings later, Bronson Gillam hit a two-run shot over the right field wall which also scored Chris Untereiner. From there, the Red Sox cruised. Tyler Wheeler, Eric Baker, Travis Tessandori, and Gillam all crossed home plate in the bottom of the eighth to give the Red Sox a seven run lead.

Jacob Leyba came into the game for the home team in the eighth and allowed no runs on one hit. Andre Del Bosque ultimately closed out the game for the Red and White with two strikeouts and a ground out in the ninth. The Red Sox won the first of back-to-back games against the Prospects, 7-0.

Red Sox starting pitcher William Shell dominated on the mound. He struck out seven, walked two, and allowed only one hit in seven innings.

Cory Duggan was the losing pitcher for the Prospects. He went all eight innings for the visitors with 12 hits, seven runs, and six strikeouts.

Gillam went 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs and four RBIs.

The Red Sox and Prospects will meet again Tuesday night at Currie Field. Opening pitch at 7:05 p.m.
