The Okotoks Dawgs (18-5) defeated the Weyburn Beavers (8-16) for their third straight win and moved their record to 4-1 on the Canada Day weekend home stand. The Dawgs were in control the entire night, winning by a score of 10-2.
Hayden Cleveland (Franklin College) took the mound tonight and collected his fourth win of the season, pitching 6.2 innings while giving up one run while striking out six Beavers. This gives Cleveland a team leading four wins. Jamie Wilson (Auckland University) finished off the game, pitching 2.1 innings and allowing one run on only two hits.
At the plate, the Dawgs were up to their usual offensive firepower, scoring their runs in bunches. Okotoks scored four runs in the third, one in the sixth, two in the seventh and three in the eighth. Chris Shaw (Midland College) had the hit of the night with a two-run home run to left field that scored two. David Head and James Stewart both collected three hits, while each scoring once despite hitting from the bottom of the order.
The Dawgs will finish off their two game series and big home stand tomorrow against Weyburn. Tomorrow, game time is 7:05pm and it is Okotoks Idol Night.
