Okotoks Dawgs celebrate on Canada’s birthday
Seaman Stadium was packed with a record crowd of 4445 fans stuffing into the Dawgpound to watch the annual Canada Day game. The Okotoks Dawgs (17-5) faced the Regina Red Sox (11-13) and dominated their opponents, winning by a final of 5-0.
Tom Zarosinski (George Fox University) got his first of the season and dominated the Red Sox, throwing 7.2 innings with no runs, six hits, and five strikeouts. He was almost unhittable all night, never giving up more then two hits in a single inning. Dominic Porretta (Otterbein University) and Ryan Serrato (Georgetown College) came in and shut down the door.
The Dawgs put everything together in the sixth inning, scoring all five of their runs on four singles and some mishaps from the Red Sox defense. Chris Shaw (Midland College) lead the offense with three hits in three at-bats and collected one out of the two RBIs that the team had on the evening. Thomas Rodrigues (Niagara University) also had a strong night, going 2-4 with a run scored.
This game was more important than just the Dawgs’ win, as over $36 000 was raised for flood relief in the High River and Foothills area. The Dawgs will be in action tomorrow night and the following evening versus the Weyburn Beavers for the only meetings of the season.
