Game 5 WMBL Division Finals

 

Western Division 
Edmonton 4 at Medicine Hat 11
(Medicine Hat wins the series 3-2)

With an opportunity to advance to the WMBL championship on the line the Medicine Hat Mavericks came out swinging. A seven run second inning was the difference as the Mavericks defeated the Edmonton Prospects 11-4 to win the Western Division Title.

Medicine Hat leadoff hitter David Salgueiro was the offensive catalyst for the Mavericks. The senior from Central Methodist University had three hits, a walk, two stolen bases and two runs scored in the win. 

Edmonton’s Anthony Cusati was two for four and finished the playoffs with a .400 batting average. 

Prospects starter Rich Walker was chased from the game early in the second inning after he surrendered seven runs.  Jaymon Cervantes, the Mavericks starter, earned the win. 

Attendance at Athletic Park was 1,152. 

 

Game Notes:
Edmonton

Michael Gahan: 2 hits and 2 RBI
Brenden Wiun threw 2 shutout innings

 

Medicine Hat 
Outhit Edmonton 13-10. The Prospects also committed 5 errors
Colton Wright had 3 RBI

 

 

Eastern Division
Regina 7 at Weyburn 6 
(Regina wins the series 3-2)

The Regina Red Sox are headed to the WMBL Championship series after beating Weyburn 7-6 in game 5 of the Eastern Division final. Regina took the series 3-2 

Adam De La Cuz was the star of the show as he went four for five with a home run and three RBI. De La Cruz then took the mound in the bottom of the ninth inning and got the final three outs to secure save and the Sox victory. 

Regina also got key home runs from Matt Deneau, his fourth of the post season and Brooks Stotler. Corey Wheaton had two hits, two RBI and a stolen base in the Beavers loss.

Anthony Race came on in relief of Red Sox starter Evan Rogers in the fourth inning and picked up the win. 

Chandler Casey, the Weyburn starter, went six innings and took the loss. Dalton Ross and Eric Evans can out of the bullpen in relief and held the Red Sox bats in check pitching 3 scoreless innings.
