Okotoks Dawgs come from behind versus Regina Red Sox
The Okotoks Dawgs faced back-to-back Western Major Baseball League champions Regina Red Sox in a rematch of the 2011 WMBL Finals. This time, the Dawgs came out on top winning in an extremely exciting 9-6 game in front of almost 3000 fans.
It took a while for the Dawgs bats to warm up, not scoring their first run until the fifth inning but then their runs came in bunches. They scored three in the fifth and then six in the seventh to make up for the five runs that Regina scored in the top half of the inning.
Josh Myers (Northern Kentucky University) sparked the lineup with three hits in five at-bats, including three RBIs. David Head (Northeastern Junior College) came up clutch for the home side, going 3-3 with an RBI.
Paul Schaak (Eastern Michigan) pitched well going five innings while giving up only one run in the first inning. The game was a complete pitcher’s duel until the seventh, when the relief pitchers combined to give up five unearned runs.
The Dawgs and Red Sox will be back in action tomorrow night for the biggest night of the year, Canada Day. The Dawgs expect to have over 4000 fans at the game, which will feature local band Cumberland playing before and fireworks following the game. The night will also include donations being raised in support of the Foothills and the town of High River.
