WMBL Playoffs Game 2 Recaps - Wednesday, August 1

 

 

Eastern Division 

Game 2

Moose Jaw 4 at Weyburn 14

Centre fielder Keaton Greenwalt had four hits including a double and a home run to lead Weyburn past Moose Jaw 14-4. Greenwalt finished the evening with four hits, four runs and two RBI. 

Weyburn starter Daniel Crooks faced 25 batters over his six innings of work. The Midland, TX product allowed three runs on five hits and two walks. Crooks, a senior from Lubbock Christian also struck out six Moose Jaw hitters on his way to earning the win.  

Michael Mommersteeg, from St. Thomas, ON, who lasted 4.2 innings, took the loss. 

Moose Jaw outfielder Schindel had a two run homer for the visiting Miller Express 

 

Highlights - Moose Jaw

Blake Gallagher had 2 walks and a hit

John Prudhom stole a base 

 

Highlights - Weyburn

Weyburn had 17 hits and 2 walks

Beaver pitchers recorded 10 strikeouts

 

(Weyburn leads the series 2-0)

 

Game 2

Regina 5 at Swift Current 7

Swift Current scored five runs in the second inning on their way to a 7-5 win over the Regina Red Sox.  The series is now tied at one game each and will head back to Regina for game three on Thursday Night and game four on Friday.  

Regina native Dylan Bells made the start for the Red Sox and went seven innings. He only allowed four earned runs on nine hits and four walks. The freshman from Frank Philllips threw 116 pitches and had eight strike outs in a losing effort. 

Joey Machado started for the 57s. He went five innings allowing one earned run on three hits. He also struck out three. Spencer Koelewyn came on in relief and earned the victory. Closer Keil Krumwiede came on to pitch the final two innings for the save.  

Blake Adams and Jerad Dokey each had a pair of hits, a RBI and scored a run in the Swift Current win. Phil Langlois scored a run and had a pair of hits and a walk for the Red Sox. 

 

Highlights - Regina 

Erik Crossman smacked a two run home run in the top of the 4th

Wesley Moss and Danny Hunt each stole a base

 

Highlights - Swift Current

440 fans at Mitchell Field

Swift Current pitchers allowed only 1 earned run

Western Division Playoffs

Game 2

Medicine Hat 2 at Lethbridge 5

Lethbridge evened the series at one win a piece as the Bulls defeated Medicine Hat 5-2.

Starter Luc Hebert was outstanding for Lethbridge. The New Brunswick native pitcher 8.1 innings giving up only one run on five hits. The Prairie Baseball Academy junior walked four and struck out 10 in the victory. Talon Derrick earned the save after getting the final two outs. 

Maverick starter Matt Brooks lasted six innings in the loss. 

Offensively Bulls third baseman Dylan Borman was a star as he scored two runs, hit a double, a home run and had two RBI in the game.   

Nolan Rattai countered with a single and two doubles for the Mavericks. 

 

Highlights - Lethbridge

Luc Herbert threw 137 pitches - 85 strikes

Jaret Semeniuk had two hits including a double and a RBI 

 

Highlights - Medicine Hat

Medicine Hat pitchers did not walk a batter in the game 

Ryan Czanstkowski pitched three scoreless innings

Game 2

 

Edmonton 10 at Okotoks 8

Edmonton held off a late inning Okotoks surge to defeat the Dawgs 10-8 at Seaman Stadium.

The Prospects now lead the best-of-five Western Division semi-final series 2-0.

With the tying run at plate in the bottom of the ninth inning, Prospect pitcher Mike Gahan struck out Nate DeChaine to end the game. Not only did Gahan pitch three innings he also saw playing time at third base and contributed two hits and a RBI. 

Anthony Cusati led the Prospects offensive charge with three hits including a home run, three RBI. He also scored three runs. 

DeChaine, Eddie Sanchez and Collin Ridout all had two hits for the Dawgs. DeChaine also had a two-run home run in the Okotoks half of the fourth inning. 

Conner Burns started for Edmonton and earned the win after going 5.2 innings.

Cody Ebert started for the Dawgs and was chased from the game after just 3.2 innings. The Columbia College senior was tagged with the loss after giving up for seven hits, four earned runs while striking out two.

Percy Lui had a double and a triple

Tony Olson had two hits
