WMBL Game Recaps - Monday, July 16

Medicine Hat 6 at Brooks 1
The Medicine Hat Mavericks became the first team to reach 30 wins this season with their 6-1 victory over the Brooks Bombers.

Colton Wright, the WMBL Player of the Week, continued to swing a hot bat. Against the Bombers the junior from Northeastern Oklahoma State walked, homered and drove in two runs. Conner Morro was a bright light for the Bombers as he contributed a run and a hit.

Jared Libke the Mavericks starter, was stellar over seven innings allowing one run on three hits and a walk. Libke also struck out nine. Felix Pena started for Brooks and was tagged with the loss.

Okotoks 2 at Weyburn 3
The Weyburn Beavers defeated the Okotoks Dawgs 3-2 in dramatic fashion. Weyburn right fielder Wade Weinburger sent the 348 fans at Tom Laing Park home happy when he crushed a two-run homer to end the game in the bottom of the ninth. The Beavers win also ended the Dawgs nine game unbeaten streak.

Weinburger finished the night with three hits, two RBI and two runs scored.
Eddie Sanchez, the Mexico City product had a hit, walk and two RBI for the Dawgs.

Craig Smith, the WMBL’s top closer suffered the loss while Weyburn reliever Chandler Casey earned his first WMBL win.

Yorkton 7 at Swift Current 14
There was a shootout at Mitchell Field as Swift Current bested the Yorkton Cardinals 14-7.

Swift Current was led by Ruben Rodriquez who hit three doubles, scored four runs and added four RBI. Logan Zozaya, the freshman from Lane Community College, had two hits and four RBI for Yorkton in the loss. 

Yorkton chased Swift Current starter Jacob Kampen from the game after he gave up seven runs in 4.2 innings. Keil Krumwiede earned the win throwing 3.1 scoreless innings. The Glasgow, MT native allowed a hit and a walk while striking out six. Jake Gill pitched two innings and was charged with the defeat.

Ben Komonosky hit the games only homerun, he also had 4 RBI
Had five batters hit by a pitch

 

Melville 4 at Regina 6

Red Sox catcher Matt DeNeau hit his fourth home run of the season to lead Regina to a 6-4 win over Melville. An energetic crowd of 947 at Currie Field watched as the Red Sox improved to 22-13 and now are 4-6 over their last 10 games. Melville is fell to 11-24. 

Justin Braziel contributed two hits, a run and a RBI for the Money Men. Red Sox newcomer Jahshua Jones a senior from Holy Names had two hits including a triple and a RBI.

Noah Freimuth made his third start and was rocked for six runs on seven hits. Freimuth gave way to Ricky Hockett who pitched three scoreless relief innings for Melville.  Regina used five pitchers in the game. Starter Edgar Cuevas picked up the win and Adam De La Cruz faced four batters to earn his second save.
