WMBL Stars of the Week – Week 6
(July 7 - July 13)

 

The WMBL Stars of the Week were announced today.

The Pitcher of the Week honours were claimed by Ryder Yakel of the Moose Jaw Miller Express. Yakel had a complete game shutout against Melville, where he allowed just four hits and a walk. He also struck out eight Millionaire hitters.

Medicine Hat Maverick catcher Colton Wright is the WMBL Player of the Week During the last seven days, Wright had 10 hits, including four doubles. He also scored four runs and knocked in 10 RBI.

Edmonton Prospect Conner Burns and Jaymon Cervantes from Medicine Hat were selected as honourable mention candidates for Pitcher of the Week

Conner Morro of the Brooks Bombers and Okotoks Dawg shortstop Collin Ridout received honourable mention as Player of the Week.


Player of the Week (July 7 - July 13)
Colton Wright - C/IF
Medicine Hat

Catcher Colton Wright of the Medicine Hat Mavericks had a very productive week with the bat to earn his selection as Player of the Week. The Surrey, BC  product had 10 hits and 10 RBIs. This included smacking four doubles and scoring four runs.

During the Mavericks July 8 game against Swift Current, the Junior from Northeastern Oklahoma State had two hits and drove in four runs.

In Medicine Hat’s 8-5 win over Fort McMurray, Wright had three hits and three RBI.


Honourable Mention:
Conner Morro – Brooks

Morro scored six runs on six hits including three home runs. He ended the week by adding five RBI, a walk and a stolen base.

 

Collin Ridout – Okotoks
This week Ridout scored six runs on eight hits. He had a double and a home run while getting four RBI.

 

Pitcher of the Week (July 7 - July 13)
Ryder Yakel - Moose Jaw
Starting Pitcher

Moose Jaw Miller Express starter Ryder Yakel was dominant against Melville on July 8. His complete game shutout included just four Millionaire hits, a walk and seven strikeouts. The sophomore from Garden City faced 33 batters while picking up his fourth win of the season.

In 2018, Yakel is 4-2 in seven starts and has a 3.06 ERA. The product of Larkin, KS has appeared in eight games and tossed 43.1 innings allowing 41 hits and nine walks while striking out 38 hitters.


Honourable Mention:
Conner Burns - Edmonton

Pitched five scoreless innings  In his win against Yorkton. During the game Burns gave up two hits, a walk and had five strikeouts.

 

Jaymon Cervantes – Medicine Hat
Pitched seven scoreless innings in a 6-0 victory over the Regina Red Sox. Cervantes allowed just three hits and struck out six Red Sox hitters in the win.
