WMBL Playoff Races Heating Up

As we head into the final weeks of the WMBL season, the playoff races are heating up. For baseball fans this an exciting time to be at the ballpark as each game has an impact on their team’s playoff chances.

Western Division:
In the Western Division, Medicine Hat leads the way with a league best 28-6 record. Okotoks has also been on a hot streak and holds down second place with a 24-10 record. Realistically the Dawgs are the only team that has a chance to catch the Mavericks for top spot in the Western Division.

The battle for the final two playoff spots is going to fun to watch. Currently Edmonton sits in third place with a 17-18 record. Right behind them is Lethbridge, who hold down the fourth and final playoff spot, at 14-22. Fort McMurray is making a run at the Bulls as they sit just one game behind at 13-23. A two-game set between the Bulls and Giants later this week may go a long way in deciding who goes to the post season.

Brooks is the last place team in the division but are only four wins behind Lethbridge and with a hot streak could make things interesting down the stretch.

Eastern Division:
The Weyburn Beavers sit atop the Eastern Division with a 25-9 mark. They have a well-balanced team and should hang on to home field advantage in the Division. The second-place Regina Red Sox are 21-13 and have an outside shot at catching the Beavers.

The Sox will also have to content with both Swift Current, 19-17, and Moose Jaw, 18-17, who are right on their heels. This will be a very interesting race to the finish as there is not much that separates these three talented teams. The jury is still out on how the final three Eastern Division playoff positions will roll out.

Melville, 11-23, and Yorkton, 8-25, will need to many thing to go right make a playoff appearance in 2018. as the season winds down, they both can be counted on to play spoiler and have a say in shaping the final playoff matchups

With playoff positions, still up for grabs in both Divisions, we can be certain that WMBL fans will see some great baseball in the final weeks of July.
