WMBL Game Recaps - Monday, July 9

 

Lethbridge 5 at Yorkton 6
In the bottom of the ninth Yorkton’s Griffey Halle doubled to center field which scored Thirus Jones to give the Cardinals a 6-5 win over Lethbridge.  The win completed the Cardinals two game sweep of the visiting Bulls.

Riley Jepson homered and drove in three runs for Yorkton. He also walked and stole a base. Hank Forrest, the Eugene, Oregon product, contributed two hits, a RBI and a run scored in the loss.

Matt Zanutto pitched the final two innings and did not allow a run to pick up the win. Bulls closer Chris Stodolka suffered the loss.

Fort McMurray 3 at Brooks 4

The Brooks Bombers sent the 200 fans at Elks Stadium home with a smile as they defeated Fort McMurray 4-3.

Brook outfielder Damian Rodriguez led the Bombers with two hits including his sixth home run of the year. Rodriguez also scored a run, had a RBI and stole a base in the win. Matt Bowes reached base three times with two hits and a walk. 

Juan Carreon earned his second win of the year with his seven inning, five hit performance. Conner Hillburn picked up the save.  Tyler Moskalyk made his sixth start for Fort McMurray. He lasted five innings surrendering four runs on six hits while striking out seven in the loss.

Okotoks 6 at Medicine Hat 5
Okotoks extended their winning streak to five games with a 6-5 win over the first place Medicine Hat Mavericks. The Dawgs used a five run eighth inning to power past the Maverisk and earn their 20th win of the year.

Offensively second baseman Eddie Sanchez reached base four times for the Dawgs. He walked three times, had a hit and scored two runs.   Carson Johnson, the sophomore from Connors State College, held a hot bat producing three hits including a triple and a RBI. Johnson also scored two runs for the Mavericks.

Okotoks starter Cameron Doherty went seven innings for the victory, his second of the year. Craig Smith earned his league leading eighth save of the year.  Julien Ly, who gave up four runs  and four hits in less than an inning, was saddled with the Maverick loss.

Swift Current 7 at Weyburn 4
The visiting Swift Current 57s upset the Eastern Division leading Weyburn Beavers 7-4.

Myles Miller and Jerad Dokey each had three hits for the victorious 57s. Dokey also contributed  four RBI.  The Beavers offense highlight came from Corey Harrell who smacked a solo home run.

Brock Gilliam pitched four innings in his second win of 2018. Nick Hooper wrapped things up for his second save of the year. Reid Wall was on the hook for the Weyburn loss.

With the win, Swift Current improved to 15-17 while Weyburn dropped to 23-8.

Ken Williams pitched 6 innings of relief

 

Moose Jaw 7 at Regina 8
Home runs from Riley Hickerson and Colton Onstott proved to be the difference in the Regina Red Sox 8-7 victory over Moose Jaw. The Red Sox are now 20-9 on the season while Moose Jaw dropped to 17-13.

Moose Jaw Outfielder Eric Marriott had a pair of hits, a walk and a stolen base. The Mitchell College junior also scored two runs and a RBI for the Miller Express.  

Darrien Ragins earned his first win of the season with his one inning relief appearance.
Tyler Bernhardt picked up his second save of 2018 by blanking Moose Jaw in the top of the ninth inning. Reliever Tannar Galey, making his WMBL debut, took the Miller Express loss.

Jake Wilson had a two run triple
