Okotoks Dawgs walk off in 11 innings
The Okotoks Dawgs (15-4) battled their division rival Lethbridge Bulls (7-13) in an 11-inning baseball game at Seaman Stadium. It was a close battle all night highlighted by both teams’ pitching, but in the end a single from Thomas Rodrigues that scored Zac Asman rewarded the fans with a 4-3 win.
Chris Villalobos (Georgetown College) got the start and went 4.2 innings, striking out five Bulls. The bullpen took over after that and Codi Scanlon and Cody Artelejo both pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no runs and only two hits combined. Shawn Andersen (Douglas College) came in for the 11th and struck out three batters.
At the plate, the Dawgs scored early with one run in the first, two in the third and then no more runs until the game winner in the 11th. Thomas Rodrigues (Niagara University) got the game-winning hit slapping a ball down the left field line and went 2-5 on the evening. Zac Asman (Northern Kentucky University) who scored the winning run, also had a strong night, going 3-5.
After this extra inning affair, the Dawgs are rewarded with a day off tomorrow before starting their extremely important Canada Day weekend series. They will be back in action against the Medicine Hat Mavericks on Saturday. Then they play the Regina Red Sox on Sunday afternoon and Monday night. The annual Canada Day game is always an amazing night with the annual fireworks show, and donations for flood relief and a battle between two of the most prestigious teams in the Western Major Baseball League.
