WMBL Stars of the Week – Week 4
(June 23 - June 29)

WMBL fans were treated to a couple of special high powered performances by Rich Walker and Riley MacDonald, who both earned Week four Star of the Week honours.
Edmonton’s Rich Walker’s historic perfect game earned him Pitcher of the Week while Riley MacDonald of the Brooks Bombers powered his way to the Player of the Week with seven home runs and 14 RBI.
Medicine Hat’s Jumpei Akanuma and Daniel Crooks from Weyburn were selected as honourable mention candidates for Pitcher of the Week
Carson Johnson of Medicine Hat and Colton Onstott from the Regina Red Sox received honourable mention as Player of the Week.
Player of the Week (June 23 - June 29)
Riley MacDonald - IF - Brooks
Brooks Bombers infielder Riley MacDonald had a very powerful performance this week to earn Player of the Week honours. The Waldorf University product hammered seven home runs and drove in 14 runs. MacDonald also scored nine runs on 12 hits.
MacDonald is chasing the WMBL record for home runs in a season. He currently has 16 which is just two shy of the League record of 18 set by Jesse Sawyer of the Lethbridge Bulls, in 2011.
During the June 28 game vs Weyburn, MacDonald had four hits including three home runs and seven RBI.
In the Bombers June 26 game against the Fort McMurray Giants, MacDonald smashed three homers and cashed in six RBI.
Carson Johnson – Medicine Hat
Johnson produced 11 runs on 15 hits. He also had a double, 7 RBI and a stolen base.
Colton Onstott – Regina
This week Onstott scored 7 runs on 13 hits including 3 doubles 2 homers and 6 RBI.
Pitcher of the Week (June 23 - June 29)
Rich Walker - Edmonton - Starting Pitcher
Rich Walker was unbeatable in his history making performance against Fort McMurray on June 29. The sophomore from Mesa Community College tossed a perfect game against the Giants. In his perfect nine innings of work, Walker also struck out nine of the 27 batters he faced.
Overall this season, Walker is 2-2 with a save in seven games and has a very respectable 2.86 ERA. The right hander from Cove Creek, AZ has made four starts and has picked up 18 strikeouts in 29.1 innings.
Jumpei Akanuma – Medicine Hat
Pitched 7 shutout inning in his June 28 win over Yorkton. Akanuma allowed just 5 hits and 2 walks while fanning 7.
Daniel Crooks – Weyburn
Earned a win after throwing 6 scoreless innings against Swift Current. Crooks gave up 5 hits along with two walks and struck out 9.
