WMBL Game Recap – Wednesday, June 27

Yorkton 1 at Regina 4

The Regina Red Sox got an outstanding pitching performance from starter Kyle Wilson on their way to a 4-1 win over the Yorkton Cardinals. The junior from Arkansas Tech threw 114 pitches and allowed just one run and six hits over 8.2 innings. He also walked three and struck out eight as he picked up his second win of 2018. Newcomer Tyler Bernhardt earned the save in his first game in the WMBL.

Yorkton’s Wryland McKnight, who pitched six innings, took the loss.

Danny Hunt led the Red Sox offence with three hits and a RBI. Cardinal third baseman Logan Zozaya had two hits including a double for the visitors.

Medicine Hat 5 at Melville 2

Medicine Hat scored five unanswered runs to defeat Melville 5-2 in front of 295 fans at Pirie Field. With the win the Mavericks, now 17-3, extended their winning streak to seven games. The Millionaires are now 6-14 on the year.

Alex Dafoe picked up his third win after his six inning start. Dafoe gave up just one earned run on four hits and one walk. He also struck out five of the 23 batters he faced.

The Maverick bullpen came on and tossed three scoreless innings to preserve the victory. Melville’s Lyle was tagged with the loss after six innings of work.

Medicine Hat shortstop Carson Johnson scored two runs 

Barry Caine pitched two scoreless innings

 

Swift Current 11 at Weyburn 7

The Swift Current 57s used a nine run seventh inning to upset the WMBL’s top team by a score of 11-7. With the loss Weyburn dropped to 18-3 while the 57s improved to 11-11 on the year.

Swift Current outfielder Blake Adams continues to hammer WMBL pitching as he went three for five with a double, an RBI and a stolen base. Regina born Luke Lubinieki was two for four with a run and a RBI for the Beavers.

Jack Ferguson earned the win for Swift Current while striking out eight. Eric Morales was given the Weyburn loss.

Fort McMurray 7 at Brooks 5

Fort McMurray scored two runs in the last two innings to get by Brooks 7-5. This game also featured 22 hits. The win improved the Giants record to 6-16 while Brooks dipped to 5-14.

The Giants offense got home runs from Drew Dickerson and Brandon Green. Dickerson also scored three runs in the win. Jakob Shields had the lone Brooks home run. Damian Rodriguez also had three hits and two doubles in a losing cause.

Allen Brown came out of the bullpen to pick up the Giants win while David Craft added the save. Cale Thornton was tagged with the Bombers loss.

Zach Lehman: 3 hits and a stolen base

Liam Shibata: reached base 3 times – 2 hits and a hit by pitch

 

Okotoks 6 at Edmonton 2     

The visiting Okotoks Dawgs lead this game from start to finish as they beat Edmonton 6-3 at Remax Field.

Brock Townsend pitched six shutout inning for his second win of the year. The Eugene, OR native gave up four hits and a walk while striking out five of the 22 Prospect batters he faced.

Edmonton’s Edgar Barclay, who took the loss, pitched four innings in his first WMBL start.

Offensively Collin Ridout had three hits including a triple and a run scored for the Dawgs. Edmonton’s Zane Takhar contributed a run, two hits and a walk in the loss.

Ryan Humenuik stole his 6 base of the season

Abdiel Alicea had a hit, 2 RBI and two walks in his first game
