Celebrate Canada Day 2013 at Seaman Stadium

06/27/2013 11:53 AM -

  Okotoks, AB. June 24 update

On July 1, the Okotoks Dawgs will be holding their annual Canada Day event. This year due to the flooding, the Dawgs have created a special partnership with Golden West Radio for the Canada Day game in an effort to raise money for those affected by the flooding. The Dawgs organization has already raised $6000 through their flood relief game held on June 23rd.

The current back-to-back WMBL champions Regina Red Sox will be at Seaman Stadium to face the former three-peat champions Okotoks Dawgs. After the game, the evening will finish off with a specatular fireworks show put on by the Okotoks Dawgs and the Town of Okotoks.

The red hot Dawgs will look to use their high-powered offense to make some fireworks of their own at Seaman Stadium. Currently, the Dawgs lead the league with 20 home runs, led by short stop Sean Kettering (Otterbien University) with a league high seven home runs, three ahead of the closest player. Kettering is tied for first in RBI's, with two more Dawgs in the top 10. Junior Dawg’s alumnus Jordan Procyshen (Northeastern Junior College) leads the league in average, and teammates Josh Meyers, Thomas Rodriques, David Hole, Cade Gotta and Kettering are all among the top 15.

In the past two weeks, the pitching staff has greatly improved, with the additions of starting  pitchers Paul Schaak (Eastern Michigan University), Chris Villaloboa (Georgetown College), Aaron Conyers (York College), and the most recent addition, Tom Zarosinski. These pitchers compliment the great job the back end of the bullpen has been doing, as Ryan serrato (two saves, 14K's) Dominic Porretta (1.62 ERA, 17 Ks) and Codi Scanlon (3.00 ERA, 12 Ks) all have been key players in closing out games.

Make sure you catch the action over the Canada Day Weekend home stand as the Dawgs look to continue winning on their way to raising the championship trophy once again. Wear red to celebrate our country and our team. Thunder sticks will be given out to the first 1000 fans to come through the gates. The game sells out every year, and in the past four seasons, the attendance has reached over 4000 fans.

The Dawgs will be playing at Seaman Stadium during the home stand on the following dates:

Thursday, June 27 @ 7:05pm vs. Lethbridge Bulls
