WMBL Game Recaps – Thursday, June 7

Swift Current 5 at Yorkton 4

The visiting Swift Current 57s defeated the Yorkton Cardinals 5-4 Thursday night. Swift Current jumped out to a 4-0 lead only to see the Cardinals battle back to tie the game. In the top of the seventh, Tyler Wojciechowski singled home Ethan Hunter for the eventual winning run.

Thirus Jones continues to star for the Cardinals. The Salem International University product had two hits a walk a RBI and a run scored in a losing cause.

Catcher Dauson Tate had a hit and scored two runs for the 57s, who improved their record to 2-5.  The Cardinals with a 0-5 record are still looking for their first win of the 2018 season.

Reliever Nick Hooper pitched 2.1 scoreless innings for the win
Bryan Benz had a walk, a double and a stolen base

Ryne Niemi chipped in with 2 hits and a RBI
Reliever Andrew Cisneros threw 4 innings and gave up 5 hits and struck out 4


Medicine Hat 13 at Brooks 5
Medicine Hat overpowered the Brooks Bombers 13-5 at Elks Stadium. The Mavericks pounded out 15 hits to run their season record to 3-2. Brooks dipped to 2-4

Evan Sutta made his first start of the season for Medicine Hat. He faced 21 batters and allowed just two hits while striking out three for the victory.

Colton Wright, the Surrey BC native, sparked the Maverick offence with three runs on three hits. Zach Lehman led the Bombers with three hits and three RBI.

Lane Fleming added a hit and scored a run
Felix Pena pitched 3 shutout innings

Highlights - Medicine Hat
Nolan Rattai had 3 hits and 2 runs scored
Jaxon Hooge contributed 3 hits and an RBI


Weyburn 6 at Regina 2
The Weyburn Beavers used the long ball to defeat the Regina Red Sox 6-2 at Currie Field.
Corey Harrell hammered two home runs and had five RBI as the Beavers beat the Red Sox for the second consecutive night.

Griffin Keller belted a two-run shot in the bottom of the first to account for the Red Sox runs.

Ken Williams was outstanding on the mound for Weyburn tossing 6 innings allowing two runs on four hits and fanning five.

Peyton Burks started for the Red Sox and lasted 5.1 innings before turning things over to the bullpen.

With the loss the Red Sox are now 1-3, while Weyburn remains undefeated at 4-0.

Eric Morales pitched 3 perfect innings with a strikeout in relief
