Dawgs pitcher to be honoured at College Home Run Derby

 June 25, 2013, Okotoks, Alberta… The Okotoks Dawgs are proud to announce that pitcher Dominic Porretta (Otterbein University) has been awarded the 2013 TD Ameritrade Fan’s Choice Award, one of the most prestigious college baseball honours awarded in the United States. He will be honoured on the field July 3rd at the NCAA College Home Run Derby in Omaha, Nebraska, home of the NCAA, Division 1 World Series. Porretta's award ceremony and the home run derby will be a national broadcast on ESPN on July 4th.

 
Poretta had the following to say about his selection for the award:
 
“I’m truly honoured to be receiving this award. I want to sincerely thank the Town of Okotoks and the Dawgs organization for their tremendous support over the past month. I am extremely grateful to have the opportunity to represent Otterbein and the Dawgs in Omaha.”
 
The TD Ameritrade Fan’s Choice Award recognizes college baseball players that go beyond the stat sheet and make an impact off the field. He won this award from fan votes for the extraordinary manner in which he inspired his team, school and his community through teamwork, leadership and integrity. In particular, Porretta was recognized for his dedication and commitment to working with a young kid named Ryan who has autism.
  
On the field for the Dawgs this summer, Porretta has also been exceptional posting a 1.62 ERA, with 17 strikeouts and only four walks in 16.2 innings. He also has two wins this season.
 
Dawgs Managing Director, John Ircandia offered: "The Dawgs are extremely proud to have such an inspiring individual on our 2013 roster. He represents all that is good about collegiate sports."
