Before Sunday afternoon’s game between the Regina Red Sox and the Moose Jaw Miller Express, the Red Sox were undefeated (2-0) against the Millers this season.
Red Sox starting pitcher William Shell found himself in some early trouble. The Millers scored three runs in the top of the first, one in the top of the second, and then four more by the end of the fifth inning to lead the Red Sox, 8-1. The Red Sox lone run came in the bottom of the fifth and was scored by Jordan Schulz.
The next three innings were scoreless until the bottom of the ninth when the Red Sox exploded for four runs. In the end though, the Red Sox fell short of the comeback and lost the game with the final score, 8-5.
Millers’ pitcher Ben Bridges went 7.1 innings, struck out six, and allowed only one run.
Just over 800 fans packed Currie Field in Regina, Saskatchewan for the game. Regina-born Jon Ryan, kicker for the National Football League’s Seattle Seahawks, was also in attendance.
The Red Sox get a day off and then they will welcome the Swift Current Indians to Currie Field on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m.
