WMBL Feature

07/16/2017 10:45 PM -

The Regina Red Sox have a long and proud baseball history. Their winning tradition includes many on-field successes including back to back WMBL championships in 2011 and 2012.
Author Leo MacDonald had a front row seat during both championship seasons and he captured the Red Sox successes in his new book “Loyal Men – The First Champions”.
MacDonald does an incredible job of walking baseball fans through both Red Sox championship journeys.  The book not only recaps the regular season games, the playoffs and championship series, it also includes statistics and in-depth player bios.
Filter in the many great photos McDonald collected from the Red Sox and Regina Leader-Post and you have a championship read.
“I wanted to get more than just stories from the players,” said MacDonald. “I wanted to add testimonials on how they felt playing in Regina and the WMBL and how they were treated by the Red Sox and the fans.”
MacDonald felt it was vital to capture the player’s thoughts and how their positive experiences played a role in the championship seasons.
Known for their passion for baseball, Leo Macdonald and his family have had a long-standing relationship with the Red Sox. He has also assisted in developing Saskatchewan baseball programs that have grown over the years.
“Saskatchewan has produced many quality kids who went on to play at a high level within the NCAA college baseball ranks,” said MacDonald.
Known by many as Regina’s First Family of Baseball, MacDonald had the pleasure of watching his sons Geoff and Mitch play major roles in winning the back-to-back championships.
It was the pride he felt watching his boys play for the Red Sox, combined with his passion for baseball, that lead to MacDonald writing Loyal Men.
“My family played a big part in the championship seasons,” said MacDonald. “The book is also about Geoff and Mitch’s playing careers with the Red Sox.”
For MacDonald, it was a a labour of love to write Loyal Men.
“I am very happy with how the book turned out,” said MacDonald.
The real winners are the baseball fans who get the pleasure of reliving the Red Sox championship seasons in this fun, fact filled book of local baseball history.
Loyal Men – The First Champions can be purchased for $20 at Currie Field, through the Regina Red Sox website, or by contacting Leo MacDonald directly at
