WMBL Round Up July 6

Lethbridge Bulls 2 at Edmonton Prospects 3
Another close game between these evenly match teams. Edmonton needed a clutch double in the bottom of the 9th from Anthony Olson to score Anthony Cusati for the 3-2 victory over the Bulls. 1,129 fans left Re/Max field in a very happy mood.  
 
The Prospects led 2-0 heading to the ninth when the Lethbridge Bulls charged back to tie the game in the top of the ninth. 
 
Edmonton got an outstanding pitching performance from Taran Oulton. The left-hander from Hutchingson College threw eight strong innings for the Prospects. Oulton only gave up one run, seven hits and two walks while striking out six before turning the ball over to closer Andrew Mirasty who got the win. 
 
Wesley Moore started for Lethbridge and pitched seventh strong innings allowing just two runs on eight hits. Dawson Moser took the loss. 
 
Jake Lanferman had three hits and Dean Olson has a pair of hits and a RBI to power the Prospects. 
 
Lethbridge had seven different batters pick up a hit against the Prospect pitching 
 
Third place Edmonton improved to 16-11 are now just a half game behind the second-place Bulls who fell to 17-11. 
 
 
Swift Current 57s 8 at Melville Millionaires 3
The Swift Current 57’s scored eight runs in the first six innings to coast to an 8-3 victory over the home town Melville Millionaires. The win stretched Swift Current’s winning streak to four games. 
 
Jagger Harjo from Tabor College made his WMBL debut and it was a successful one for the 57’s. 
The Midwest City, OK native picked up the win as he threw five scoreless innings only allowing two hits and two walks. It was bullpen by committee to finish the game for Swift Current. 
 
Melville starter Carlos Ramirez was relieved of his pitching duties after three innings. The young pitcher from Los Lunas New Mexico struggled with his control walking six batters while giving up four runs in the loss.  Thomas Halcomb pitched the final six innings of the contest. 
 
The 273 at Pirie Field watched on as Riley Campbell had a spectacular game for Swift Current. Campbell contributed in a variety of ways including hitting a double, stealing a base and scoring three runs.  
Centre fielder Austin Stokes gave the Money Men something to cheer about. Stokes, a sophomore from Ranger College, had three hits, a RBI and walk in Melville’s losing effort. 
 
With the win Swift Current, now 18-9, remain a game behind first place Regina. Melville fell to 6-22 and weakened their chance at the playoffs. 
 
 
Yorkton Cardinals 2 at Weyburn Beavers 8
The Weyburn Beavers scored eight runs on 13 hits as they defeated Saskatchewan rival Yorkton 8-2. The Cardinals, who had 11 hits in the game, lost for the fifth consecutive time. 
 
After tonight’s win the Beavers moved to 15-13 on the season. Yorkton is now 7-30 and in a dog fight to capture the final Eastern Division playoff spot. 
 
Kyle Stevenson started for the Yorkton Cardinals. In his sixth start of the season, the Hollister, CA product went six innings allowing five runs on nine hits. He also struck out five of the 30 batters he faced in the loss. 
 
The Weyburn Beavers sent the senior from Minnesota-Crookston Cody Pamperin to hill to face the Cardinals. Pamperin was credited with the win pitching six innings. Brodie Stairs and Lane Fazende closed out the contest for Pamerin and the Beavers. 
 
Yorkton’s offence was fueled by Jackson Soto who was three of four with a run while teammate Parker Smejkal had two hits including a home run and two RBI.
 
Beavers outfielder Anthony Wiggins tapped out three hits, two RBI and a stolen base in victory.
 
 
Moose Jaw Miller Express 0 at Regina Red Sox 9
Justin Erlandson’s three run homer in the 2nd inning set the tone for this game. The booming shot was his sixth of the season. Catcher Corey Henderson singled home two runs to increase the Red Sox lead to 6-0 in the sixth. Regina added three insurance runs late in the game to make the final 9-0 over Moose Jaw. 
 
The first-place Red Sox now 19-8 have now won three in a row while the Miller Express, 15-14 have dropped their last three. 
 
657 fans at Currie Field watched happily as Justin Erlandson had two hits and three RBI. Aden Campbell added four hits and an RBI in the shutout win.         
 
Lane Harvey the lone Moose Jaw bright spot with a pair of hits. 
 
Regina starter Jake Waters pitched a superb seven shutout innings. He only allowed three hits and two walks. The right-hander from Arkansas Pine Bluff threw 123 pitches in the game including 76 strikes in victory.  
 
Preston Minor and Justin Magstadt preserved the shutout for Waters.
 
Hunter Kloke was roughed up in his five innings of action. He gave up 10 hits and six runs in the loss. Moose Jaw used three relievers to get them through the rest of the game. 
 
 
Fort McMurray Giants 5 at Okotoks Dawgs 8
Okotoks spotted the Fort McMurray Giant three runs before the Dawgs came off their chain to score eight runs for the win. The win moved Okotoks into sole possession of first place in the Western Division. 
 
Samuel Hersh, the sophomore from Newman University started the contest for the Giants. He went five innings facing 21 batters but he allowed eight hits and five runs before heading to the dugout.  His record dropped to 1-2 with the loss.
 
Justin Verni, the WMBL Pitcher of the Week, got the start for Okotoks. Vernia went seven innings while allowing six hits, four runs and struck out nine to pick up his second win. Taylor Davis pitched one inning before Tyler Burdett closed out the game, striking out two to earn his eighth save of the year
 
Hector Benitez and Tyler Friis each had a pair of hits for the Giants. 
 
Cameron Campbell had a hot bat going 3 for 4 with a couple of RBI
