Canada Day in the WMBL

06/30/2017 9:59 AM -

Canada Day in the WMBL provides us with the great opportunity to gather in our communities and proudly celebrate baseball and being Canadian.

We get to share a special time and our successes with our family and friends. As we go Around the Horn, we get a feel for the impact the WMBL has on Canada Day.

Here are comments from some of our teams about the upcoming WMBL Canada Day Experience.

Weyburn Beavers
Happy Canada Day! We are very excited to be celebrating Canada's 150th birthday during our first visit to the Fort McMurray Giants. As a team in Canada's premier summer college league, we are proud to be a part of a continually growing sport within communities across the prairies, both big and small. The Weyburn Beavers wish you a safe and happy Canada 150 and hope to see you back at Tom Laing Park on July 6th.

Melville Millionaires
The Millionaires are in Brooks for Canada Day. Being a small market team, the Mils players really enjoy the experience of playing in front of the large crowds and the whole Canada Day experience at the ballpark.

Regina Red Sox
We are very excited to be playing Medicine Hat on Canada Day. It’s always extra special to be   part of the WMBL Canada Day game experience. With the ceremonial events and Canada Day focused activities you can always expect a dynamic day at the ballpark.

Edmonton Prospects
The Canada Day ballgame at RE/MAX Field is a tradition carried on from the days of the Edmonton Trappers. Edmonton baseball fans pack the house every year to support their Edmonton Prospects and celebrate Canada Day in the jewel of Edmonton's River Valley. The opportunity to play in front of upwards of 10,000 fans is certainly a memorable experience for Prospects players.

RE/MAX Field is the best place to watch the Canada 150 fireworks. From the bleachers, fans are given a front row seat to the fireworks.

Captain Canada Ryan Smyth will be in attendance to sign autographs and take photos with fans after he throws the ceremonial opening pitch.

The RCMP Honour Guard will lead the pregame ceremonies. After the game the Whiskey Boyz cover band will provide entertainment between the end of the game and the start of the fireworks. RE/MAX will provide entertainment before the game for kids, so we encourage fans to arrive early!

Lethbridge Bulls
Our Canada Day double header is the most anticipated baseball event of the summer. The two games typically are sellouts. At the end of the second match, fans get to head on the field and watch the Canada Day Fireworks that are set off at Henderson Lake which is right across the street from the stadium.

Throwing out the first pitch in game #1 is Joe Meli who is a 4-time Olympian in Judo. Throwing out the first pitch in the second game is Trevor Stuart who climbed Mt. Everest last year and raised $41,000 for The YWCA Lethbridge and District Harbour House. (Women's Shelter.)

Between games we will be having Pure Power Wrestling doing a special performance.

Both games will have matches in our continuing UFA Tug of War Charity Challenge. 28 charities have been engaged in a Tug of War Tournament before each home game where they are competing for $2800 for their charity. Each charity buys in for $100 with the final winner on the last home game of the season winning the entire jackpot.

Medicine Hat Mavericks
The Mavericks are hosting Canada Day's 150th celebration at Athletic Park. We plan to go above and beyond for decorating, as it is a huge year.

Also, we had Canada Day 150 t-shirts made up that we will be selling to our fans. This game is sponsored by the Medicine Hat Mall, who will also be giving away t-shirts to the first 100 fans through the gate.

We plan on hosting a very exciting evening down at Athletic Park. Join us before heading over to see the fireworks and watch some great action as the boys take on the Regina Red Sox. Happy Birthday Canada.

Okotoks Dawgs
The Dawgs will be hosting another spectacular Canada Day game to sold out and expected record breaking crowds.

Our gates will open at 3 pm ahead of a 7:05 pm game.  We will have pre-game entertainment such as face painters, live music until 6:30 pm, special pre-game promotions including a limited edition t shirt give away and prizes from Molson’s and First Calgary Financial.

Our promo team will have games and prizes for the fans and we will also host a post-game fireworks extravaganza to celebrate Canada's 150th.
