After three days off due to a pair of rained out games, the Regina Red Sox were back in action Monday night to face the Saskatoon Yellow Jackets.
Red Sox catcher Chris Untereiner hit an RBI single to right-centre field that scored Eric Baker in the bottom of the first to give the home team the early 1-0 lead.
From there though, the pitchers stole the show. William Shell pitched seven innings for the Red Sox and struck out seven, while Yellow Jackets’ pitcher Matt Cook struck out eight in eight innings.
Yellow Jackets’ center fielder Zach Burling eventually got the visitors on the board in the top of the eight to even up the score, 1-1. The Red Sox retook the lead in the bottom half of the inning when a Yellow Jackets’ error allowed Untereiner to round third and head home.
Burling’s line drive to right field scored Hans Ask and Landon Briscoe in the top of the ninth to give the Yellow Jackets the late 3-2 lead. The Red Sox were in dire need of runs, but they failed to muster up any offense and lost the close contest, 3-2.
Cook was credited with the win, while Andre Del Bosque picked up the loss for the Red Sox.
The next Red Sox home game will be Friday against the Weyburn Beavers; game start at 7:05 p.m.
