The Lethbridge Bulls took a 2-0 series lead over Regina Red Sox with a hard fought 5-3 win Friday night at Spitz Stadium The Bulls can secure a WMBL Championship for the 1st time with a win in game 3 Sunday afternoon at Currie Field in Regina.
The game time change was necessary due to a scheduling conflict with a 21U tournmanet in Regina. The Tournament organizers refused to budge on their event on Saturday to allow the Red Sox time on their field to play Game 3 as scheduled. After discussing options such as moving the game to Moose Jaw, playing the game in Lethbridge or playing at 10 pm Saturday night, the League agreed to allow the Red sox to schedule Game 3 at 2 pm Sunday, followed by a Game 4 if necessary at 7 pm.
"I am surprised that the City and the Tournament would not accommodate the Red Sox playoff push. They should be working together to build baseball in Regina and this is counter--productive," commented WMBL President Kevin Kvame. "Unlike many summer leagues which have very short playoffs, we run 3 rounds that have very little flexibility on dates. Teams are to secure their homes for the possiblity of playing playoff games. I would have hoped Regina would have had more respect for the fans, our league, and our committment to their City in this case."
