Catcher Travis Steinke hit his first homerun of the playoffs. On Monday night the Bulls picked up a 5-1 victory on the strength of Brandon Bufton’s 2-4, HR, 4 RBI night.

In Weyburn on Sunday the Beavers 15 hit attack along with 3 Edmonton errors pushed Weyburn to a 10-7 victory over the Prospects. Ryan Johnson started on the mound for the Beavers. Johnson allowed 4 runs over 5.2 innings while striking out 7. Game 2 saw more of the same. Weyburn collected 14 more hits on the evening.  In the bottom of the 2nd inning Spencer Mallonee hit a grand slam to put the Beavers up 5-0.  Reed Lavallee also hit his first homerun of the playoffs as they cruised to a 12-5 victory.

Okotoks used a strong pitching performance by Dylan Nelson to win the first game of their series with Medicine Hat on Sunday 6-4. Nelson pitched 6 innings giving up only 5 hits, 1 run, and striking out 8 Maverick hitters. Brian Sisler was a perfect 4-4 on the night. Medicine Hat’s Andy Scott was a triple shy of the cycle with 2 RBI’s on the evening. Another close ball game turned out in Okotoks favour on Monday night. The bullpens were the story in this ball game as all the offense came in the first 5 innings. Neither team could muster a run after the 5th and the game went to extra innings. In total the two bullpens pitched 10 innings and struck out 13 opposing hitters. In the bottom of the 10th an error by the Mavericks first baseman allowed Matt Morrow to score the winning run. Matt Morrow had his second great game in a row for the Dawgs. Morrow is currently 4-7 with a 3B, HR and 3 RBI’s so far in the playoffs.

In Regina on Sunday Tommy Lay of Red Sox got the boys off to the start they needed. Lay threw 7 innings, giving up only 6 hits, 1 ER and striking out 3. Gabriel Montero was 3-4 with 3 runs scored for the Red Sox. It was a back and forth contest throughout, and Regina took the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the 8th to take it 5-3.  On Monday night Regina and Yorkton battled back and forth all game. In the end Regina scored 6 runs in the last 3 innings to take the ball game. Brandon Vaughn had the game ending single for the Red Sox.

All eight teams will be back in action tonight. The series will be switching locations, and the teams will be traveling during the day for the night games. Good luck to all teams as we push forward in the 2015 WMBL Playoffs.
