August 5th, 2014:
Lethbridge, AB... The Okotoks Dawgs (3-2) overcame a 2-0 series deficit to upset the No. 1 seed Lethbridge Bulls (2-3) by a score of 6-4 in one of the most entertaining playoff series in recent memory.
Despite home field advantage and a regular season that concluded with seven more wins than the Dawgs and a league-high seven all stars, the Bulls fell to the Dawgs in the first round for the second year and a row, and sixth time in the past eight seasons.
after just 4.2 innings. Connor Crane (Lamar CC) followed up his dominant game yesterday by going 3-5 with two RBIs and a run. Scott Hoyt (Colorado State University - Pueblo) got off the schneid by going 3-5 with a run and a double, which gave the Dawgs a two-run cushion in the seventh. Taylor Fish (University of Nebraska) was 3-4 with a run and an RBI.
Tyrell King (Paradise Valley CC) was given another start and allowed four runs (none earned) through five innings with five strikeouts. Chris Sievers (Northeastern Junior College) tossed two scoreless innings of relief, and last night's stopper Shawn Andersen (Douglas College) prevented any Bulls momentum with a scoreless eighth.
In a park where the Dawgs have seen three late-game collapses this season, Travis McDonald (University of Arkansas - Little Rock) shut down the Bulls in the ninth inning, complete with a strikeout to end the game.
The Dawgs now have an off day before they travel to Medicine Hat for the first two games on Thursday and Friday at 7:05 PM. Game three will be played in Okotoks Saturday, August 9th at 7:05 PM, and if a fourth game is necessary, the it will be played Sunday night at 7:05 PM.
