Okotoks, AB...Even a little rain couldn’t put a damper on the Okotoks Dawgs’ (19-19) annual Canadian Breast Cancer Pink Day at Seaman Stadium, as the Dawgs walked away with an 8-4 win over the visiting Edmonton Prospects (15-25) and a win against breast cancer.
Starting pitcher Chris Sievers (Northeastern Junior College) had four strikeouts through four innings while allowing four runs. The Dawgs’ bullpen was on tonight, as Liam Stroud (Niagara University), Shawn Andersen (Douglas College), and Shaun Meyer (Georgetown College) combined to allow just five hits over four scoreless innings.
Jordan Peterson (Chandler-Gibert CC), Ross Barker (Western Texas College) and Blake Patterson (Spalding University) each had two hits. Barker and Patterson each had one RBI and one run scored.
The Prospects’ defense did themselves no favour as they committed six errors throughout the game. The Dawgs won the hit battle 10-8 and also recorded seven steals, including two by Ellis Kelly (Lamar CC) and Barker.
The Dawgs wore pink jerseys for this afternoon’s game, and the jerseys were auctioned off to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. The Dawgs set a new team record with funds raised, as the team received just over $40,000 for their players’ uniforms, with full proceeds going to the CBCF. The high-selling jersey of the afternoon belonged to Mario Sanchez (Colorado State University – Pueblo) at $3200.
