Red Sox Win Low Scoring Affair
June 9, 2013
Sunday’s matinee between the Regina Red Sox and the Yorkton Cardinals featured merely everything baseball fans could ever want in a game. From numerous double plays, to stolen bases, to a solo home run, the two East division rivals picked up right where they left off when they met for the first time earlier this month.
Pier-Olivier Dostaler smacked a solo shot over the left field wall at his first at bat to give the Red Sox the early lead in the bottom of the first. The following four innings went scoreless until Michael Meany’s line drive scored Justin Burgess for the visitors. Red Sox first baseman Bronson Gillam eventually broke the 1-1 tie in the bottom of the ninth courtesy of Tyler Wheeler’s single and a Cardinals’ error.
Andre Del Bosque picked up his first win on the mound for the Red Sox, and after returning from competing in the NAIA World Series, Wheeler went 2-for-3 at the plate.
The Red and White’s next home game will be on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 against the Melville Millionaires.
