Okotoks 6 Saskatoon 1
July 4th, 2014
Okotoks, AB...On Red, White and Blue Day at Seaman Stadium, an American pitcher led the Okotoks Dawgs (13-13) a 6-1 win over the visiting Saskatoon Yellow Jackets (9-14).
Oceanside, California native Jon Richards (Sonoma State) threw a complete game, giving up just one run and earning his fourth win of the year. Richards struck out just two, but only allowed one walk and five hits.
The Dawgs only picked up three RBIs on their six runs. Connor Crane (Lamar CC), sporting an American flag sleeve, was 1-3 with an RBI and a walk. Alejo Lopez of Mexico City, a current high school student in Arizona and a former Junior Dawg, appeared in his first game with the Dawgs and was 2-4 with a run scored and some great defensive plays at shortstop.
Okotoks now has their first .500 or better record of the year, and move 1 game up on the Edmonton Prospects in the standings.
The Yellow Jackets are in town for one more game, then the Dawgs have two days off before the Edmonton Prospects come to town. Tomorrow night is ‘Once a Dawg, Always a Dawg’ Night at Seaman Stadium where alumni from both the Calgary and Okotoks Dawgs will be in town for a batting practice session at 2 PM. They will be honoured prior to the game starting at 7:05 PM. Media are welcome to come out at 2 PM to interview former players during batting practice. Former Dawg Cam Christian will also have his jersey retired posthumously.
