TELUS Field is a great place to watch the Canada Day fireworks and was the ideal spot to watch an entertaining baseball game.
The Edmonton Prospects added to the festivities with a 4-0 win over the Regina Red Sox in Western Major League Baseball action Tuesday evening.
It was a defensive affair until the sixth inning when the Prospects lit things up with four runs with four runs.
DH MACKENZIE PARLOW broke a scoreless tie in the sixth inning with none out. Parlow’s line drive down the first base line turned into a stand up double that drove in two runs.
Third baseman NICK SPILLMAN extended the Edmonton lead when he grounded out to shortstop — but scored an RBI to put the Prospects up 3-0.
But they weren’t done yet.
First baseman VINNY MARTIN’s first home run of the season — a solo shot that dropped over the left field fence — made it 4-0 to round out the scoring.
Prospect pitcher BLAKE MITCHELL had a solid outing, pitching a shut out.
Mitchell pitched a complete game, and just served up four hits. The Cypress Junior College pitcher struck out four and walked six.
The win against the Red Sox was doubly impressive, considering Regina sits in in first place of the WMBL’s eastern division.
With the win, the Prospects now have a 12-13 record The Prospects have a rare two days off before returning to action Friday at TELUS Field when the Weyburn Beavers visit for the first game of a two-game set. Friday’s first pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
