In front of another record Canada Day crowd, the Okotoks Dawgs (11-12) again followed a strong performance from their starting pitcher to defeat the Melville Millionaires (9-13) 8-3.
4769 packed into Seaman Stadium, with both berms filling up 40 minutes before game time. It was another record setting crowd for the Dawgs organization.
Chris Sievers (Northeastern JuCo) was outstanding in the win, throwing 7.2 innings, recording nine strikeouts and just three runs against. He entered the eighth inning with just one hit against. CJ Lewington (Southeastern Illinois) closed out the final 1.1 innings with two strikeouts and not hits, runs or walks against.
Again, the Dawgs steals led them to a win as they picked up five. Mark Riendeau (Louisiana College) hit a two-run home run off the foul pole in the midst of his 2-4, three RBI performance. Ellis Kelly (Lamar CC) was 1-3 with two RBIS and Mario Sanchez (Colorado State – Pueblo) was 2-4 with one RBI.
Tomorrow, the Dawgs host the Moose Jaw Miller Express in the first game of a two game series. Then, the Saskatoon Yellow Jackets come to town for two on Friday and Saturday. To get tickets, call 403-262-3294.
