WMBL Week 4 – Pitcher and Player of the Week for June 20 - 26, 2014

Pitcher of the Week Steven Brunnell from the Melville Millionaires

 Melville Millionaires starting pitcher Steven Bunnell has been named the Western Major Baseball League (WMBL) Pitcher of the Week.  Bunnell is from Carlsbad, California and plays at San Diego Christian (SDC).  San Diego Christian is coming off their best year in program history seeing them making it all the way to the NAIA World Series.  Bunnell who was used primarily as a closer for SDC has transitioned well into a starting pitcher for the Mils.  

Bunnell earned this week's award for pitching a 9 inning, complete game, shut out against the Medicine Hat Mavericks last Wednesday.  In the game Bunnell surrendered just 2 hits, and stuck out 8.  For the season, Bunnell is now 3-1 with a 2.14 ERA.  He has stuck out 30 hitters in 29 1/3 innings pitched.

Player of the Week Kameron Mizzell from the Yorton Cardinals

Kameron Mizzell was named Player of the Week for the WMBL.  Mizzell who comes for Sylacauga, Alabama just finished up his senior year at Talledega College, in Alabama. During his senior campaign at Talledega Mizzell was named Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Year. During his decorated career at Talledega Kameron was named All-Conference in 2012 and 2014, Team MVP in 2014, Hitter of the Year in 2013 and Defensive Player of the Year in 2012. In 2013, Kameron finished 6th in all of NAIA with a batting average of .429


This is Kameron's second year in the WMBL and is also serving as the Cardinals pitching coach. His first year in the WMBL Kameron hit .257 with three homeruns. This season Kameron has started out hot hitting .349 with 16 RBIs and already has as many home runs as he hit all last year with three. 


During the week that Kameron was named Player of the Week, Kameron hit .389 with three homeruns and 9 RBI's. He also threw out the only two runners to try to steal on him. Two of the homeruns Kameron hit came in Weyburn as the Cardinals defeated the Beavers 4-2. Kameron had all four RBI's on the two homeruns. Just to top it off, Kameron also threw 2.1 innings with one earned run and three strikeouts. 


The Yorkton Cardinals Organization is proud to have Kameron on their team as he is not only a leader in the clubhouse but also on the field. Kameron has volunteered over 20 hours in two years with different organizations in Yorkton, including baseball camps for the Yorkton Cardinals youth teams and the city of Yorkton S-Cape program.
