Okotoks, AB… The Dawgs came out hungry for a win in game three of the WMBL West Final. After losing two straight in Medicine Hat to start the series, the Dawgs came home to the friendly confines of Seaman Stadium looking to keep their season alive, but due to a late rally by the Mavericks, their season came to an end. An early lead disappeared and the Dawgs fell by a final score of 13-8.
The offense came out swinging in the first inning shaking a three run first for the Mavericks by scoring six of their own. After that, two runs in the second was all that the Dawgs could muster. The biggest hit came from David Hole (Thompson Rivers University) who hit a two-run shot in the first inning and went 2-for-4 in the game. Josh Myers (Northern Kentucky University) continued to tear up Mavericks pitching, by going 4-for-6 with a double and a run scored. Jordan Procyshen (Northeastern Junior College) led the team in average in the playoffs, hitting .392 and went 2-for-4 tonight.
Before tonight, Chris Villalobos (Georgetown College) had dominated the Mavericks but he was roughed early and only pitched two innings while giving up four earned runs and five runs overall on seven hits. It was a mixture of players from the bullpen with Cody Artalejo (Northeastern Junior College) being the only solid pitcher, throwing 3 2/3 innings giving up only one run on four hits.
The Dawgs had a great regular season and look to carry that in to their offseason. The Dawgs organization will look to improve on this year’s ball club and come back next year with one thing in mind: a championship!
