The middle of the series featured close games that came down to the bitter end, while the first and last games of the series were blowouts. Okotoks came out on top and move onto the second round.
The Okotoks Dawgs (3-2) and Lethbridge Bulls (2-3) faced off in game five in a winner-take-all situation. After a tough loss last night, the Dawgs came out with a lot to prove and won by a final score of 14-2.
The Dawgs came away with 11 hits total, and one huge inning where they scored eight runs. Jerod Bartnik (UBC) had his best game of the year, with a two RBI double in the third and then followed that up with a three-run home run in the sixth, finishing with a 2-for-4 night with five RBIs and two runs scored. Two of the hottest hitters for the Dawgs kept rolling with Cade Gotta (San Diego Christian College) going 3-for-5 and Thomas Rodrigues (Niagara University) going 2-for-5 with two RBIs.
Hayden Cleveland (Franklin College) gave up two runs in the third, but other then that, he dominated through five innings of work. He gave up six hits and struck out five Bulls. Cody Artalejo (Northeastern Junior College) and Wyle Cunningham (Salt Lake Community College) threw two innings a piece with no runs allowed and only gave up three hits.
The Dawgs will now travel to Medicine Hat to take on the first place Mavericks in WMBL Western Conference Finals. Game 1 and 2 will be in Medicine Hat on Tuesday and Wednesday night. Game 3 will be played at Seaman Stadium on August 8th at 7:05pm and if a game 4 is required, it will be on August 8th at 7:05pm.
