On Thursday night, the Regina Red Sox exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to cruise to a 6-1 win over the Moose Jaw Miller Express in their first game of the season. Jay Livingston picked up his first win with the squad and was extremely satisfied with the performance of returning Red Sox pitcher Ryne Drummonds.
“Drummonds pitched a beauty, he was all over the plate,” Livingston said post-game.
The 21-year-old struck out five batters and allowed five hits in the Red Sox home opener. Chase Benfield, Chris Untereiner, Andre Del Bosque, Travis Tessandori, Cole Boychuk, and Austin Drummonds crossed the plate to contribute to the home team's commanding win.
Throughout the evening, fans endured off and on rain before game was eventually called in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Prior to the start of the game, returning players and Red Sox personnel were presented with last year’s 2012 WMBL championship hardware.
The Sox will begin a three game road trip on Friday against the Melville Millionaires and will travel to Yorkton, and Moose Jaw before returning home on Monday to take on the Weyburn Beavers.
